Kokusai
Kinetic Design
Kokusai DSP started by making manganese battery operated wooden models as the company name of “Kokusai Model Laboratory”.
It then grew up as a pioneer of a moving POP display advertising.
In 1990, developed a solar cell operated “Lucky Cats” and introduced many patterns as a forerunner of “Solar Toys”.
In 2012, they started to use their new brand, Kokusai DSP, creating kinetic pieces loved by many for their playful approach.
Aircraft
An ornithopter (from Greek ornithos "bird" and pteron "wing") is an aircraft that flies by flapping its wings. It was first invented by Leonard da Vinci in 1490.
Kokusai has reinterpreted this creation, introducing a mesmerizing piece called Kaku. It is an autonomous solar-powered ornithopter. A perfect gift to brighten up your home.
Oscilloglass
Kokusai's ”oscilloglass” is a mechanically driven hourglass that starts moving and ticks the time by turning it over.
Each of the components sealed inside and visible through the delicate glass cylinder is pulled by the earth's gravity, and then moves by its own weight.
The drop speed is controlled by the same principle as a mechanical clock, descending slowly and eventually stopping while interacting with each other.
